Last week my book was published. Last week the
dream I had while holidaying at Gwythian in Cornwall came true. ' The Mermelf-A
Fable for Our Times' took many years to find its form as a verse novella. What
have I learned from that journey? One thing is certain. One's value
as a writer is not determined by other people. It begins within. From the small
kernel of an idea a field of waving corn can be born. And eventually if and
when the time is right you can invite others to come and walk through your
about to be harvested field. There may be those who decline your invite. In
truth there will be many refusals, some polite, some not so polite, but with
patience a visitor will come along who believes in your vision For
me that visitor was Austin Macauley Publishers. I hope this story reaches as
many dreamers as possible. As the great Irish poet Yeats once said: “ In dreams
begin responsibilities..” And for those of us who are poets and dreamers, the
responsibility of dream is the starting point of much poetic venture. Follow
your dreams. Believe in yourself.
