Reading at My Alma Mater

One of the pleasures for a writer with a new book is to read to audiences. Of course, sourcing and finding audiences is not as easy today as it once was. My new book 'The Mermelf-A Fable for Our Times' is a verse novella, aimed at younger readers. Funding is at an all-time low for many arts organisations, so one must rely on one's own ingenuity and resources. When I was about the age that my book is aimed towards, my father went to Africa to work voluntarily for The Irish Aid Agency. They paid the interest on his mortgage, and My sister and I were sent to Rathdown School in Glenageary, Dublin. I was so delighted. All my dreams coming true. Ever since reading Malory Towers I always wanted to go to a boarding school. Rathdown did not disappoint, so it was with delight that I travelled on the overnight bus to arrive at my alma mater at 9 am. I read to one hundred and eighty students on the 29th May and marvelled at their perceptive questions.. The principal even purchased books, always a plus for an aspiring bestselling author.
